Primary type material: holotype worker. Primary type locality: Ghana: Tafo (= New Tafo, Eastern Region, Akim District, Cocoa Research Institute of Ghana), 3.ix.1970, rotten log (B. Bolton). Primary type depository: BMNH.
Secondary type information:
Secondary type material: 12 paratype workers. Secondary type localities: 6 paratype workers with same data as holotype, 1 paratype worker with same data as holotype but 31.viii.1970, litter sample, 5 paratype workers Ivory Coast: Forêt de Tai, 9.viii.1975, no. 4 (T. Diomande). Secondary type depositories: BMNH, MCZC, NHMB.

- [Note: by printer’s error the name Tetramorium flabellum appears twice in Bolton, 1985: 246. The first (upper) entry of the name should correctly be Tetramorium pinnipilum. The second (lower) entry is correct as Tetramorium flabellum.]
