Primary type information: Primary type material: holotype (?) worker. Primary type locality: "Habitat in America meridionali" (no further data) (Rolander). Primary type depository: if material survives then presumably ZMLS. Type notes: 1) No indication of number of specimens is given. 2) De Geer, 1773: 600, Fabricius, 1782: 492, Gmelin, 1790: 2801, Fabricius, 1793: 360, Latreille, 1802a: 178, and Kempf, 1972b: 119, all give the type locality as Suriname, presumably based on the collector being Rolander. 3) Day & Fitton, 1978: 196, record it as absent from LSLC.
