Polyrhachis acasta Smith, 1860 an obsolete combination of Polyrhachis acantha acasta Smith, 1860
Polyrhachis acasta Smith, 1860b: 100, pl. 1, fig. 23 (w.) INDONESIA (Bacan I.). Australasia.
Primary type information: Primary type material: holotype worker. Primary type locality: Indonesia: Bachian (= Bacan I.), “Bac. 5” (A.R. Wallace). Primary type depository: OXUM. Type notes: 1) The pin of the holotype card mount has been shifted in the past from the bottom right hand corner of the stage card to middle bottom. 2) Three other workers in the OXUM collection may have their origins in the same series as the holotype. All have had the pin shifted as in the holotype. However, there are no original data discs on these specimens, just a rectangle of blue paper with the letter “B.” If this was Smith’s doing I feel sure he would have put “Bac.” because “B,” in his system, is the abbreviation for Bouru (B. Bolton unpublished notes 1978).
