Primary type specimen: CASENT0911582. Type notes: 1) B. Bolton interprets type locality as being Kenya, but Shirati is in Tanzania, near the border with Kenya. The original description states "Africa or.": Katona (Shirati 1909). 2) Baroni Urbani, 1977e: 87, and Shattuck, 1994: 159, cite 1 worker syntype in NHMB. 3) 19 workers from the type series (but not included in the original description) are present in HNHM (Bolton, 2007b: 56).
