Primary type information: Type-material: lectotype worker (by designation of Rakotonirina & Fisher, 2014: 109). Type-locality: U.S.A.: “Sandwich Is” (= Hawaii Is), Oahu I. (T. Blackburn). Type-depository: BMNH. Type-specimen: CASENT0102272 (lectotype). Type notes: Lectotype is a single worker labelled “52” upon the stage card, and “Oahu. 79/40.” BMNH Accessions Register gives: “1879 no. 40. 1 Leptogenys insularis Sm. Sandwich Is (Oahu). Presented by Rev. T. Blackburn, Honolulu.”
