Etymology The genus name is derived from the Ancient Egyptian word srit, meaning “small,” in reference to the minute body size and reduced eye of species in this lineage. It is combined with the suffix -pone, derived from Ponera, the type genus of the subfamily and a common element in Ponerinae generic names. The gender is feminine.
