Primary type information: Primary type material: syntype major and minor workers (numbers not stated, “several”). Primary type locality: Australia: Western Australia, Perth, Kings Park, xii.1931 (Glauert), and Western Australia, Rottnest I. (no further data). Primary type depository: MCZC. Type notes: Heterick et al., 2017: 293, include both localities, but Wheeler, 1934d: 153, cites Kings Park as the type locality.

Subspecies of Melophorus turneri: Taylor & Brown, 1985: 125; Taylor, 1987a: 38; Bolton, 1995b: 250; Heterick, 2009: 98.
Status as species: Heterick et al., 2017: 293 (redescription).
