Primary type information: Primary type material: holotype worker. Primary type locality: Brazil: Ega (= Tefé), “58/6” (H.W. Bates). Primary type depository: BMNH. Type notes: 1) 1 worker in BMNH confirmed. 2) In the original description Smith, 1858a mentions that the ant was accompanied by a beetle (“a species of Cylistes”) but at some time in the past the card on which they were both mounted has been divided, and the beetle removed. 3) BMNH accessions register gives: “1858 no. 6 Amazon (Ega on the Riv.) purchased of Stevens.” (Bolton (unpublished notes) 1978).
