Etymology The species name brachypterum (from Greek “brachys”, meaning “short”, and “pteron”, meaning “wing”) is treated as a Latinized neuter adjective in the nominative singular, referring to the reduced wings of the queen.
Primary type information Primary type material: holotype queen. Primary type locality: Japan: Central Ryukyu Islands, Amami-ôshima, Yuwan, 29.iii.2023 (N. Idogawa). Primary type depository: SKYC. Primary type specimen: KMNHSKYC25-01.
