Etymology The species name xegi is a Latinized noun in the genitive case, dedicated to my mentor and good friend Xavier Espadaler i Gelabert.

Type notes Bolton cites the collector of the paratype specimen as D.A. Jackson and says that the date 1905 for the Dorothy Jackson specimen is incorrect; more probably 1975.
